Job summary

Archer is an aerospace company in San Jose, CA developing a four-passenger all-electric VTOL aircraft. We seek an EMI/EMC specialist to design, analyze, and test EMI filters and to support DO-160G and MIL-461G certifications.

Responsibilities include circuit/FEM simulations for emissions and susceptibility, providing PCB layout and shielding guidance, and working with EMC labs for pre-compliance testing. Base pay ranges from $144,000 to $198,000 USD.

Qualifications

• Strong EMI analysis/simulation background for power electronics.
• Solid knowledge of circuit simulation tools and EM tools.
• Familiarity with LISNs, antennas, probes, EMI receivers, spectrum analyzers.

Responsibilities

• Design/Analyze/Test EMI filters for Archer products and advise component placement and grounding.
• Run in-depth circuit and FEM simulations for emissions, susceptibility, ESD, and lightning.
• Provide EMC recommendations for PCB layout, cable shielding, grounding, and enclosures.
• Collaborate with EMC Test Engineers to design/test/certify Archer products for DO-160G/MIL-461G.
• Coordinate with EMC labs for pre-compliance/compliance testing for Archer products.

Job description

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. Responsibilities

• Design/Analyze/Test EMI Filters for various Archer Products. Provide inputs regarding value selection, orientation of components, board layout guidelines and grounding strategies for EMI Filters.
• Perform in-depth Circuit and FEM Simulations for Emissions, Susceptibility, ESD and lightning strikes.
• Provide detailed EMC recommendations to Electrical, Power Electronics and Mechanical Engineers for PCB board layout/Cable shielding strategies, enclosure designs, grounding etc.
• Work closely with EMC Test Engineers to design/test/certify various Archer Products for DO-160G/MIL 461G.
• Work with EMC test labs for Aircraft level and DO-160/MIL 461G pre-compliance/compliance for Archer Products.

Requirements

• Strong background in EMI Analysis/Simulation of Power Electronics/Electric Circuits.
• Solid knowledge and usage of Circuit Simulation tools (MATLAB, PLECS, PSIM etc.) and Ansys EM tools (Q3D, SIWave, HFSS and Maxwell)
• Detailed Understanding of various EMC Equipment such as LISNs, Antennas, BCI Probes, EMI test receivers, Spectrum Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Vector Network Analyzer, Impedance Analyzer etc.
• Familiarity with various standards such as DO-160, MIL-461, CISPR 12/16/25/32, UN ECE Regulation 10, FCC Part 15/18 etc.

Bonus Qualifications

• Prior EMC Per-Compliance and Certification experience in Aerospace (DO 160 or MIL 461) /Automotive Industry (FCC or UN ECE Reg 10).
• Detailed Understanding about SI/PI – Design/Simulation and Measurement.
• Experience with analysis/design/test with Active EMI filters.

Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
