Job summary

Textron Systems in Wilmington, MA seeks a hands-on Software/Embedded Systems Engineer to join our UAS development team, focusing on C software on embedded Linux, sensor and avionics integration, and ROS/ROS2 nodes.

You will participate in lifecycle activities from concept through field testing, perform hardware/software integration, and debug complex system interactions, with a goal to advance UAS capabilities and work with proven platforms.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or completed B.S. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
• Strong proficiency in C and embedded Linux development.
• Ability to debug complex system interactions across hardware and software.
• Knowledge of embedded systems concepts (I/O interfaces, timing, networking, real-time considerations).
• Experience with software configuration management and CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain C software for UAS systems on embedded Linux.
• Implement and integrate ROS/ROS2 nodes for autonomy, perception, control, or sensor handling.
• Participate in software lifecycle from concept to lab integration, evaluation, and field testing.
• Perform hands-on hardware integration with sensors, payloads, comms modules, and embedded control systems.
• Troubleshoot system-level issues across software, hardware interfaces, networking, and real-time constraints.
• Collaborate in multi-functional teams to deliver reliable, performant system functionality.
