Job summary

Austin Sensing Company seeks an Embedded Systems Engineer to develop firmware and embedded software for our sensing hardware. You will own code that brings up boards, controls peripherals, moves sensor data, and ensures deployed systems run reliably.

You will collaborate with hardware, RF, FPGA, and software engineers from bring-up to production and customer deployment, diagnosing issues at the bench and in the field.

Qualifications

• Experience developing embedded firmware for deployed hardware products.
• Proficiency in C or C++ and familiarity with Python for testing/automation.
• Strong understanding of microcontrollers, processors, interrupts, memory, and peripherals.
• Experience with bare-metal development, RTOS, or embedded Linux.
• Hands-on board bring-up and debugging with JTAG/SWD, scopes, and logic analyzers.
• Experience diagnosing firmware/hardware/communications issues.
• Familiarity with version control and automated builds.
• Clear technical communication focused on reliability and maintainability.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded firmware/software for microcontrollers and processors in sensing products.
• Bring up new boards, configure peripherals, and develop drivers with electrical engineers.
• Implement sensor control, data acquisition, and communications between hardware and software.
• Build interfaces using SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet.
• Develop startup, configuration, fault handling, and recovery behavior.
• Implement firmware updates, diagnostics, and health monitoring for deployed devices.
• Debug interrupts, timing, memory, communications, and hardware interactions.
• Optimize software for compute, memory, power, and latency.
• Create automated tests and tools for hardware validation and field troubleshooting.
• Document interfaces and system behavior; use field feedback to improve reliability.
