Job summary

ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions is seeking an Embedded Systems Engineer – Hardware & Firmware in the Atlanta area to lead hardware/firmware architecture for next-generation access control products. The role interfaces with software, mechanical engineering, product management, manufacturing, quality, and support to deliver secure, scalable solutions.

You will define system architectures, perform board bring-up, develop embedded firmware, and implement secure, connected devices ready for production.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree; 5+ years developing embedded hardware and firmware from concept to production.
• Must Have: Strong embedded C/C++ with microcontroller in bare-metal/RTOS; analog/digital circuit design; schematic/PCB work; lab bring-up and debugging; familiar with SPI, I2C, UART, RS-232/RS-485, CAN, Ethernet, USB.
• Valuable: Embedded Linux-based systems; Yocto experience.
• Wireless: BLE, Wi‑Fi, or NFC.
• Secure boot and cybersecurity practices; regulatory certification experience (FCC, CE, UL, RoHS, REACH).
• Python for test automation/diagnostics.

Responsibilities

• Lead embedded hardware platforms for access control and security products.
• Define system architectures; select processors, memory, wireless modules, sensors and peripherals.
• Create schematics and guide PCB layout; ensure signal integrity and EMI/EMC compliance.
• Board bring‑up, validation, troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis; support production transfer.
• Develop and maintain embedded C/C++ firmware; drivers, HALs, diagnostics, bootloaders.
• Implement bare‑metal and RTOS‑based solutions; manage tasks, interrupts, IPC, timers.
• Develop secure firmware architectures with cryptographic controls.
• Integrate wired/wireless connections to cloud/mobile/enterprise systems.
• Support product development lifecycle from concept to sustaining engineering; documentation.
