Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Software Engineer II (Applications) to build mission systems software for real uncrewed aircraft. You will work on vision-based navigation and autonomous flight, on a small, fast-moving team that takes ownership of hard problems.

You will design, develop, and test software powering autonomy, integrating sensors and robotics subsystems, and contribute across the full software lifecycle with senior mentorship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• 2–5 years of software development experience; internships or startup work acceptable.
• Proficiency in C++ (C++11/17), Python, or C with OO design.
• Comfortable on Linux, testing, and debugging.
• Git and modern development tooling (CI/CD) experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test onboard Linux software for vision-based navigation and autonomy.
• Integrate sensors and robotics systems onto real aircraft and verify flight.
• Own features end-to-end from design to automated testing and deployment.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute ideas for ship-and-test workflows.
• Turn requirements and algorithms into robust, well-tested code.
• Collaborate with other engineers to reuse and improve shared software.
• Learn quickly in a hands-on team with senior mentorship.
• Address moderate-scale problems and apply sound judgment.
