Job summary

Iridium is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer III to join our Mobile Product Software Engineering Team in McLean, VA. You will design and sustain embedded software for Iridium’s transceivers and related tools, working cross-functionally with hardware and system engineers to deliver high-quality mobile products.

You’ll apply C programming, RTOS concepts, and low-level debugging while improving performance and reliability across software and hardware interfaces.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in EE/CE or related field with 5+ years software experience.
• 3+ years’ experience developing embedded software for microcontrollers.
• 4+ years’ experience developing software in C; ANSI C and memory management.
• Familiarity with asynchronous event-driven paradigms.
• Experience with preemptive, multitasking RTOS.
• Strong knowledge of OSI model, networking, interfaces and hardware subsystems.
• Knowledge of UART, SPI and I2C protocols.
• Ability to read schematics and data sheets for components.
• Experience benchmarking algorithm performance on embedded systems.
• Strong communication and analytical mindset; proactive communicator.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop embedded software for microcontrollers with emphasis on quality and reliability.
• Implement and optimize RTOS, device drivers, and communication protocols.
• Debug and troubleshoot firmware issues for timely resolution.
• Isolate and fix complex low-level problems across hardware/software boundaries.
• Integrate, build, and manage embedded software configurations.
• Write and maintain unit, regression and tests for mobile product software.
• Create and maintain documentation including requirements, ICDs, test plans.
• Review work products from teammates and collaborate across disciplines.
• Coordinate with software, hardware and systems engineers to ensure product quality.
• Promote a culture of product quality across the organization.
