Actalent in King George, VA is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design and develop embedded software for weapon control within a Battle Management System portfolio. You will work on multiple projects, from coding on embedded microcontrollers to building simulators with interactive GUI, and support installation and assessment of embedded systems locally and at external sites.

You will collaborate with a ~15 engineer team on a large, mission-critical program.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years of embedded software experience.
• BS in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering or equivalent hands-on weapon-system experience.
• Proficiency in C#, Java, or C++.

Responsibilities

• Design, code, and engineer embedded software for weapon control across Battle Management System projects.

• Write test cases and perform unit testing to validate hardwaresoftware integration and overall system functionality.
• Support installation, integration, and assessment of embedded systems at local and external test and operational sites.
• Work effectively in a fast‑paced, rapidly changing range and field environment with a strong focus on fielding a reliable product.
• Support tasking across multiple concurrent projects, managing priorities and collaborating with cross‑functional team members.
• Use version control systems and modern development tools to maintain code quality, traceability, and configuration control.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience demonstrating the ability to concept, prototype, design, code, and engineer embedded software solutions.
• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in computer engineering or electrical engineering, or equivalent direct hands‑on experience with a weapon system application.
• Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: C#, Java, or C++.
• Knowledge of hardware architectures, microcontrollers, and communication protocols relevant to embedded systems.
• Knowledge of graphical user interface (GUI) development, including design and implementation.
• Knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol suite, including network stack integration and socket programming.
• Proficiency with widely used version control systems, such as Git.
• Experience using debugging and troubleshooting tools for embedded systems and low‑level hardwaresoftware interfaces.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and support multiple projects simultaneously.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience with weapon system integration.
• Knowledge, experience, and understanding of military standards such as MIL-STD-1553.
• Experience integrating embedded systems with GPS, sensors, safety interlock circuitry, and other mission‑critical subsystems.
• Experience with Linux‑based environments for development or deployment of embedded solutions.
• Familiarity with real‑time operating systems (RTOS) for embedded applications.
• Experience with modern development platforms and collaboration tools, including Git‑based repositories and continuous integration systems.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex issues involving hardware, software, and networks.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Work Environment

This position is fully onsite, five days a week, at a base in Dahlgren, VA. You will work within a secure facility as part of a team of approximately 15 engineers on a large, prime weapon system program. The environment is fast paced and field oriented, with frequent interaction between software, hardware, and test personnel. You will use tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, embedded development environments, version control systems, and network analysis utilities. Work involves both laboratory and range or field settings, with a strong focus on delivering reliable, deployable products in support of mission‑critical operations.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $135000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
