Job summary

MassBay Community College in Wellesley Hills, MA seeks an Embedded Learning Specialist to assist a full-time faculty in the English department with in-person and virtual classroom management, materials preparation, and student support. This is a part-time, non-unit position with up to 18 hours a week during fall, spring and summer semesters.

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant educationalcommunity and have a desire and ability to serve a population of students withvarious needs and backgrounds. This is apart-time, non-unit position with no benefits. The primary purpose of this roleis to assist a full-time faculty in the Department of English with in-personand virtual classroom management, preparation of materials, and studentsupport. This position includes both on-campus and virtual hours for up to18 hours a week during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Assist with document management, research, and reporting.
• Assist with correspondence and scheduling.
• Assist with the preparation of teaching materials.
• Assist with using adaptive technology solutions (e.g. voice to text, shortcuts, etc).
• Work with students one-on-one and in small groups.
• Encourage student engagement, i.e. how to respond effectively to feedback and self-advocate.
• Demonstrate active and effective participation in class activities.
• Help students understand assignments and instructor’s written feedback.
• Help students with reading comprehension techniques, often working with students in small groups to discuss and understand course readings.
• Connect students to the Academic Achievement Center and other College resources.
• Help students navigate the course on Blackboard in person and online.
• May assist in leading classroom activity in small and/or large groups.
• Review and understand upcoming assignments and curriculum via Blackboard course site, other learning management system, or shared documents.
• Collaborate with instructor via face-to-face meetings, Skype, email, etc.
• May communicate with students via learning specialist’s MassBay email.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in required discipline, or closely related field;with one (1) year experience and/or training that includes teaching,instructional technology or program development; or an equivalent combinationof education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affi;
• Experience working in a community college or similar environment;
• Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need;
• Proficiency in Blackboard or other Learning Management software platform:
• Strong technology skills (will need to assist with OneDrive, Google Docs, Blackboard, Microsoft Office, etc);
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Experience working with college students in a flexible setting.

Times and Days

The successful candidate will be required to work during the faculty member’s in-person class times and will be embedded in their asynchronous online courses. Must be able to commit to up to 18 hours weeklyduring the fall, spring and summer academic session.

Additional Information

Salary Range: $36.55 per hour

Classification: MCCCPart-Time, Grade 5
