Lightmatter, Inc. in Boston, MA is hiring an experienced embedded software engineer to develop control planes and diagnostics for photonic interconnect products.

You will implement laser control and stabilization routines, telemetry firmware, and tooling to bring new hardware to life, collaborating with photonic, analog, digital, and systems engineers. The role involves owning well-scoped firmware components, debugging on embedded targets, and growing depth in a fast-moving domain where hardware

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in CS, EE, Robotics, or related field.
• Experience delivering embedded software to customers or production hardware.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and Python for tooling and analysis.
• Solid hardware-software integration knowledge.
• Experience with FreeRTOS, Zephyr or similar RTOS.

Responsibilities

• Implement and tune active laser control and stabilization algorithms on embedded targets, from architecture defined with design team.
• Own delivery of firmware components for photonic transceiver diagnostics, telemetry, and monitoring from requirements through bring-up, test, and release.
• Contribute to control plane and diagnostics architecture discussions with multidisciplinary teams.
• Integrate transceiver management with CMIS, OpenBMC, and DMTF standards.
• Bring up new hardware with hardware engineers and debug embedded systems using GDB, JTAG, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
• Characterize and debug laser behavior with optical test equipment and build automated test scripts.
• Adapt existing practices and devise new approaches, working independently with review at checkpoints.
• Write documentation and share findings with engineers outside your specialty.
