Job summary

Leidos is seeking an Embedded Firmware Developer in Huntsville, AL, to lead design and development of firmware for a range of platforms including FPGAs and MCUs. The role emphasizes collaboration across hardware engineers, program managers, and customers to meet demanding aerospace and defense requirements.

Ideal candidates have a strong background in embedded systems, HDL, and software in C/C++, with US citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• 4+ years embedded system design and test, or 2+ years with MS degree.
• Understand trade-offs of embedded targets (FPGA/SoC/microcontroller/RTOS).
• Proven experience with FPGA design and HDL (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog).
• Experience with common protocols: UART, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical efforts across the product life cycle from concept to manufacturing and post-delivery support.
• Architect, implement, and test embedded firmware/software on FPGAs, microcontrollers, microprocessors, and mixed-signal designs.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers, project managers, and technicians to meet diverse requirements.
• Evaluate technology improvements and conduct trade studies.
• Troubleshoot board-level issues and identify corrective actions during testing and manufacture.
• Support issue resolution discovered during manufacture and test.
