Job summary

Alarm.com seeks an Engineering Manager to lead an embedded software team focused on MCU firmware for security gateways and sensors. This player-coach role involves hands-on design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring while driving delivery across multiple projects.

You'll collaborate with hardware, product management, and operations to move products from concept to mass production, and guide distributed teams to align plans and risks.

Qualifications

• B.S./M.S. in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years managing or leading an engineering team; 5+ years embedded firmware development.
• Deep microcontroller experience with C, bare-metal/RTOS, and hardware-level debugging.
• Experience with low-power battery-operated devices and wireless connectivity (cellular LTE Cat-M/NB-IoT and short-range radios).
• Strong technical judgment and ability to vet designs; excellent written and verbal communication in a distributed org.

Responsibilities

• Lead an embedded software team building MCU-based security gateways and sensors.
• Own the team's delivery: sprint commitments, project plans, resource allocation.
• Stay hands-on: lead design/architecture reviews, review code, solve hard problems.
• Partner with hardware, product management, quality, and operations to take products from concept to mass production.
• Oversee manufacturing test software and production integration with contract manufacturers.
• Coach and develop team members through 1:1s and feedback; hire as the team grows.
• Coordinate across offices to keep plans, status, and risks aligned with remote stakeholders.
