Job summary

Epia Neuro in Alameda, CA is seeking a Firmware Engineer II to design, implement, and test embedded firmware for implantable neural interfaces and external devices. You will work across the embedded software lifecycle, from hardware bring-up to verification, in a regulated medical-device environment.

Join a cross-disciplinary team, write robust C/C++ code, develop device drivers, and contribute to automated tests and documentation under ISO 13485 / IEC 62304.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of professional experience in embedded firmware or embedded software.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ for microcontroller-based embedded systems.
• Experience with microcontrollers (e.g., ARM Cortex-M), peripherals, interrupts, and I2C/SPI/UART.
• Experience with Python scripting for testing/automation and embedded device testing.
• Experience debugging embedded systems with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and hardware debuggers.
• Ability to read schematics and understand basic electronics and RTOS concepts.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative development; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware in C/C++ for implantable and external medical devices.
• Develop device drivers, communication interfaces, and application-level firmware for microcontroller systems.
• Implement firmware features involving peripherals, RTOS, and communication protocols.
• Develop Python scripts and applications to interface with embedded devices for testing and debugging.
• Participate in firmware design discussions and code reviews to improve quality.
