Job summary

Vatn Systems is a startup designing autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). We seek an Embedded Firmware Engineer to design, develop, and maintain firmware across bare-metal and embedded Linux platforms.

You will write C, C++, and Go, bring up new hardware, and own low‑level software for reliable maritime operation. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of embedded firmware experience, strong C/C++, STM32 familiarity, and exposure to embedded Linux, with a focus on hardware/software integration and

Qualifications

• Degree in EE, CE, CS or equivalent.
• 3–5 years of embedded firmware experience.
• Strong C/C++ for embedded MCUs.
• STM32 experience with CubeMX/HAL/LL or bare‑metal.
• Experience on embedded Linux platforms.
• Understanding hardware/software integration and debugging tools.
• Experience with UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet.
• Real‑time constraints, interrupts, DMA, memory management.
• Battery-powered/resource-limited systems experience.
• Git proficiency and collaboration skills.
• Excellent problem‑solving and teamwork.
• US Citizenship or Permanent Residency; ability to obtain clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain firmware for embedded controllers.
• Develop system-level software on embedded Linux boards in Go, C, and C++.
• Bring up new hardware including bootloaders and device drivers.
• Implement and debug inter-subsystem communication (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet).
• Integrate sensors and actuators, support real-time control and telemetry.
• Optimize firmware for performance, memory, and power.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional engineers to meet requirements.
• Write and maintain unit/integration tests and support HIL testing.
• Participate in code reviews and ongoing maintenance tasks.
• Troubleshoot and upgrade firmware on vehicles and field devices.
