Altec Industries invites applications for a Controls Developer position based in St. Joseph, MO. You will design and deploy embedded control software for our products, collaborating with multiple teams to meet customer needs and project timelines.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, ABET/EAC certification for engineering degrees, and 4 years of relevant experience (internal or external). Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential, with travel up to 25% expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline required.
• ABET EAC certified Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required for engineering degrees.
• Internal candidates - minimum 4 years Altec experience in a Controls Developer or engineering role; 2+ years after earning degree.
• External candidates - minimum 4 years’ experience after earning degree; Masters counts as 1 year of experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must work with team members and with minimal supervision.
• Thorough understanding of basic job practices and principles.
• Must interact with associates, departments, vendors, customers, etc.
• Basic understanding of business principles and practice.
• Must be confident, dynamic and able to work as part of a team.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% may be required.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect software systems for embedded controls.
• Rapid proof-of-concept development.
• Explain complex systems to senior leaders clearly and concisely.
• Develop presentations and public speaking materials.
• Train others on software and engineering topics.
• Apply software development and testing best practices.
• Coordinate with other development teams on cross-team projects.
• Drive high-level business goals to completion on schedule and budget.
• Communicate with customers about technical specifications and design.
• Manage a team of development resources.
• Support Operations, Sales and Service teams.
• Contribute to Altec’s team-oriented design and customer service efforts.
