Job summary

Altec is seeking a Co-Op, Controls Developer for a one-semester commitment from January through June 2027 at the Altec Midwest Facility in St. Joseph, MO. The role includes developing and testing control software, PCB assemblies, and embedded systems with a remote team.

The position offers furnished housing and an hourly wage. Candidates should be pursuing a related bachelor’s degree and may have prior Co-Op experience; EIT registration or pursuit is required or preferred.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline required.
• Degree majors preferred: CS, CE, EE, or mechanical with controls concentration.
• Completion of degree prior to start date required.
• EIT registration or ability to obtain registration for engineering degrees is required.
• Prior completion of a Co-Op with a utility equipment manufacturing company preferred.
• Experience with telematic control systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participate on design teams to develop and test control software for Altec products.
• Design and develop printed circuit board assemblies and electronic modules.
• Review electrical component specifications and applications for compatibility.
• Review and create control system electrical schematics.
• Evaluate and test chassis interface with supplier components.
• Work with remote team members to maintain product architecture.
• Utilize data loggers to troubleshoot equipment and evaluate new designs.
• Embedded system design and component selection.
• Become part of Altec’s team-oriented design, manufacture, and customer service/support efforts.
• Communicate with customers on issues of technical specifications, product design and operation.
• Provide technical support to sales associates.
• Support Operations, Sales, and Service.
• Participate in Continuous Improvement Initiatives.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in related discipline

Completion of Degree prior start date required

Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with controls concentration

EIT registration or ability to obtain registration
