Job summary

Altec Integrated Solutions Ltd. is seeking a Controls Engineer/Technologist to deliver automation solutions for diverse industries across North America.

You will design, program, test, commission, and optimize control systems powering complex machinery. Working with a multidisciplinary team, you will lead projects from concept to startup, mentor junior engineers, ensure safety and quality standards, and drive continuous improvement while maintaining thorough documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma of Technology in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years in the design, programming, and commissioning of discrete and/or motion control systems.
• Proficiency in PLC programming platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff and Siemens.
• Experience with AutoCAD, EPLAN for electrical design or equivalent software.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and layout of electrical control systems from concept to completion, ensuring they meet customer and project specifications.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics and layouts using AutoCAD or EPLAN while adhering to relevant standards, including UL508a and ISO 13849.
• Program and debug control logic for PLCs, including Allen-Bradley, Siemens and Beckhoff systems, both from scratch and based on existing programs.
• Design and program HMI interfaces to create intuitive, user-friendly interfaces tailored to client needs.
• Oversee site commissioning of control systems at customer sites, ensuring seamless integration and optimal system performance.
• Draft detailed functional specifications that guide the design and implementation of control systems.
• Evaluate and procure equipment for projects, ensuring functionality, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
• Collaborate with shop technicians to address production challenges and implement effective solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and oversight to ensure the delivery of high-quality designs and programming.
• Ensure compliance with Altec’s processes, quality standards, and industry codes.
• Maintain clear documentation for all control system designs, software programs, and installation procedures.
• Contribute to the refinement of engineering processes to enhance efficiency and product quality.
