Job Description:

The Gastroenterology Medical Assistant works as part of the care team to provide professional care to patients with conditions such as irritable bowel disease, Crohn’s, colitis, esophageal motility issues, pelvic floor problems, and Hepatitis C. Responsibilities include taking vital signs, reviewing medication lists, and performing video capsule procedures. This specialty offers an excellent opportunity for a Medical Assistant to be an integral part of the patient care team, supported by a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team that encourages skill expansion.

Key Responsibilities

1. Preparing visit charts with diagnostic results, reports, summaries, and records accessible to providers.
2. Rooming patients according to documented criteria, including collecting chief complaints, allergies, vital signs, medication review, tobacco history, and health maintenance documentation.
3. Accurately measuring and recording age and condition-specific data such as vital signs, height, weight, head circumference, peak flow, and pulse oximetry.
4. Conducting screenings based on patient needs, including depression and asthma assessments.
5. Collecting and processing specimens using appropriate methods and equipment.
6. Performing point-of-care testing accurately.
7. Managing medication refills and prior authorization processes per guidelines.
8. Maintaining clinical supplies and medication samples, ensuring proper storage, labeling, and stock levels.

Education/Experience/Licensure

1. High School Diploma or GED required; graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
2. 1-3 years of medical assistant experience preferred.
3. Medical Assistant Certification/ABR-OE strongly recommended.
4. Experience with computer systems and EMR preferred.
