Job summary

The Sylvania School District is seeking an EL Assistant to support English Language Learners with their academic and language development in a full-time role. You will work closely with the EL teacher and school staff to provide targeted instruction and progress monitoring for diverse learners.

Responsibilities include one-on-one and small group support across reading, writing, and math, helping with lesson plans, translations when needed, and contributing to an inclusive environment for ELLs

Qualifications

• Experience working with ELLs in an educational setting.
• Experience in letter sounds, reading or phonics preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members.
• Must pass a background check and drug test.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and small group instruction to ELLs in various subjects, including reading, writing, and math
• Support the school's EL teacher in developing and implementing lesson plans and activities that meet the needs of ELLs
• Help ELLs understand and complete classroom assignments and assessments
• Monitor and track the progress of ELLs and provide regular updates to the EL teacher and other staff members
• Assist with translating and interpreting for ELLs and their families as needed
• Collaborate with other staff members to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for ELLs and their families
• Attend professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on best practices for working with ELLs
