Boston Public Schools seeks a Research and Assessment Specialist for Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese) at the Newcomer Assessment and Counseling Center. The role evaluates language proficiency to inform appropriate placement and supports equity for English Language Learners.

Reporting to the Newcomer Assessment and Counseling Center Director, you will design research studies, maintain data quality, and prepare district reports while collaborating with teachers, administrators, and community partners

Competenze

• Bachelor degree in ESL/Applied Linguistics or related field.
• Massachusetts Teaching License in ESL or related field.
• Trained in WIDA-ACCESS and other K-12 assessments.
• Understanding of state and federal guidelines affecting ELLs.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Minimum 3 years experience with ELLs in an urban setting.
• Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese).

Mansioni

• Identify key areas of need in the assessment and placement of ELLs that warrant further research.
• Collaborate with the Deputy Chief of Operations and Director of Newcomer Assessment and Counseling Center to design studies and prepare reports.
• Conduct analytical research against source data and suggest new metrics for testing methodologies.
• Manage and monitor data quality in assessment datasets.
• Analyze data with basic statistical methods and provide written summaries.
• Cultivate relationships with district leaders, teachers and community organizations to promote awareness of ELL placements.
• Participate in committees and liaise with principals and headmasters as directed.
• Maintain data needed by OMME for planning and monitoring programs.
• Model professional behavior and uphold district policies.
