Job summary

The Town of Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Department is seeking highly experienced instructors to lead specialized sports clinics, including baseball/softball, basketball, and other sport-specific areas. Instructors will design and implement high-quality sessions focused on progression, technique, and player development.

Programs may be offered seasonally, ongoing, or in short-term formats for varied ages and skill levels, delivering structured, engaging, and development-focused instruction

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge and demonstrated expertise in a specific sport.
• Ability to teach and break down complex techniques clearly.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to create structured, progressive training plans for various ages.
• Professionalism, reliability, and punctuality.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement structured, skill-specific training sessions.
• Lead and instruct individuals and small groups in a clinic-style environment.
• Assess participant skill levels and provide individualized feedback.
• Create a positive, disciplined, high-energy learning environment.
• Work with the Program Supervisor to develop curriculum and schedules.
• Prepare and maintain equipment and instructional areas.
• Enforce safety standards and department policies.
• Communicate effectively with participants, parents/guardians, and staff.
• Identify and report facility or equipment issues.
• Assist with special events, camps, or tournaments as needed.
• Promote program growth and community engagement in athletics.
