Qualifications

• Strong horticultural knowledge and plant care expertise.
• Experience with New England plant material including shrubs, perennials, evergreens and natives.
• Ability to assess soil conditions and recommend amendments.
• Skilled in proper pruning techniques for ornamental shrubs and small trees.
• Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM).
• Ability to work independently and manage daily tasks efficiently.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Select appropriate plant material based on site conditions, design intent, and client needs.
• Install shrubs, perennials, annuals, trees, and specialty plantings using industry-standard methods.
• Perform expert pruning, shaping, deadheading, and thinning for health and aesthetics.
• Diagnose plant health issues (pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies) and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain garden beds: edging, mulching, weeding, soil conditioning, and seasonal cleanup.
• Manage perennial gardens, foundation plantings, ornamental shrubs, and specialty gardens.
• Implement seasonal color programs and container plantings.
• Monitor irrigation needs and adjust watering schedules based on plant requirements.
• Communicate professionally with clients and team members.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe condition.
