Job summary

City of Huron is seeking a Firefighter to protect life and property through fire suppression, EMS response, rescue, and prevention. You will work under direction within the department’s chain of command and maintain readiness and professional standards.

The role requires SD Firefighter I & II, SD EMT, a valid license, and completion of NIMS/ICS training. Ongoing training and certification maintenance are expected to support department readiness.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• SD Firefighter 1 and 2 certifications.
• SD EMT certification.
• Valid driver’s license with insurability requirements.
• NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 training.
• Must obtain Driver/Operator certification within 12 months of hire.
• Meet medical, physical, and job-performance requirements.
• Maintain licenses and certifications throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, HazMat incidents, aircraft emergencies, vehicle accidents, natural disasters, and other calls for service.
• Perform fire suppression, search and rescue, forcible entry, ventilation, water supply, ladder operations, salvage, overhaul, and other fireground tasks.
• Provide emergency medical care within certification scope.
• Operate apparatus, pumps, hose lines, ladders, SCBA, rescue equipment, and tools as trained.
• Maintain communication, crew integrity, accountability, and situational awareness during operations.
• Assist with pre-incident planning, fire inspections, and public education.
