Job summary

The Division of Public Assistance (DPA) in Alaska is seeking an Eligibility Technician 2 to join the statewide Public Assistance Eligibility Team in Nome. The role involves helping families and individuals access public assistance programs and interacting with the public to determine benefits.

What you will be doing:

In this role, you will be part of the statewide Public Assistance Eligibility Team. Together, we will help Alaskan families, the elderly, and other individuals in need reach higher levels of independence and self-sufficiency by connecting them with the public assistance programs our agency offers.

You will also have the opportunity to interact extensively with the public, being empathetic while explaining the need for information or determining benefits.

This position joins a statewide eligibility workflow team in local Public Assistance offices across the state.

  • Oral and Written Communication:Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving:Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

One year of entry level experience as an Eligibility Technician 1 with the State of Alaska;

OR

One year performing similar work that developed knowledge and skills in applying program requirements and working with client customers in stressful situations.

Substitution:

Post‑secondary education in such fields as sociology, social work, psychology, counseling, human services, vocational rehabilitation, developmental disabilities, behavioral sciences, business, public administration, or accounting may substitute for the required experience (undergraduate credits: 2.67 semester/4 quarter hours = 1 month).

CLASSIFICATION

This position is currently under review as part of the Public Assistance Field Services Study; therefore, the title and/or pay range currently assigned may be subject to change upon implementation of this class study.
