Job summary

The State of Hawaiʻi Department of Human Services is seeking Eligibility Worker I trainees for the Benefit, Employment and Support Services Division (BESSD) and Med-QUEST Division (MQD). Entry-level roles train in public assistance policies, determine initial and ongoing eligibility and support clients with financial and health coverage programs.

Qualifications

Three (3) years of work experience involving public contact and explaining policies, rules, and regulations in person or by telephone; and utilizing a computer to retrieve and enter data.
Ability to read, comprehend and apply written directions and perform basic mathematical computations, including percentages and averages.
High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Determine initial and continuing eligibility for public assistance programs (food assistance, cash benefits, childcare).
Determine eligibility for health coverage programs (Medicaid/MQD) for low-income adults and children.
As an entry level trainee, receive training on the philosophy, goals, functions, policies and procedures of public assistance programs; and perform related duties as assigned.
