Job summary

The State of Hawaiʻi Department of Human Services is seeking Eligibility Worker I trainees for the Benefit, Employment and Support Services Division (BESSD) and Med-QUEST Division (MQD). Entry-level roles train in public assistance policies, determine initial and ongoing eligibility and support clients with financial and health coverage programs.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of work experience involving public contact and explaining policies, rules, and regulations in person or by telephone; and utilizing a computer to retrieve and enter data.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and apply written directions and perform basic mathematical computations, including percentages and averages.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Determine initial and continuing eligibility for public assistance programs (food assistance, cash benefits, childcare).
  • Determine eligibility for health coverage programs (Medicaid/MQD) for low-income adults and children.
  • As an entry level trainee, receive training on the philosophy, goals, functions, policies and procedures of public assistance programs; and perform related duties as assigned.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent
30 semester credits substitution for General Experience
