Job summary

University of California, Los Angeles seeks an experienced Elevator Mechanic to service, inspect, repair, install, and modify traction and hydraulic elevator systems. The role includes responding to trouble calls, reading wiring diagrams, and documenting repairs in maintenance logs.

You will work from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, follow safety procedures, and coordinate with the supervisor to keep equipment reliable and compliant with LA City and CA codes. Union affiliation: UCLA.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of hydraulic, electric, gearless, variable voltage, and solid state elevator systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot electro/mechanical systems by inspecting indicators, contacts, and wires.
• Repair and maintenance of vertical and horizontal conveyors, stage lifts, and related equipment.
• Familiarity with Los Angeles City Codes, CA codes, Fire and Seismic Safety Codes.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and modify designs as needed.
• Strong written and oral communication for reports and work orders.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined spaces.
• Knowledge of UBC, OSHA, and ADA requirements.
• Ability to work overtime and various shifts.
• Ability to work independently and with teams.

Responsibilities

• Service, inspect, repair, install, and modify elevator systems and equipment.
• Dismantle and replace faulty components and wiring.
• Respond to trouble calls and emergencies; document repairs.
• Write reports, update maintenance logs, and issue work orders.
• Follow safety procedures and keep job sites clean and organized.
• Coordinate with supervisor and complete project closures.
