TITLE: Teacher

LOCATION: Camber Academy

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district serving approximately 22,000 students, with over 60 languages spoken at home. KCKPS includes Sumner Academy, ranked #6 high school nationally and #1 in Kansas by US News.

The district comprises Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, making it the fifth largest in Kansas. The student demographic is approximately 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian. The district employs about 4,000 staff, including over 1,800 teachers.

Job Goal

To facilitate student understanding and application of concepts, skills, and behaviors that develop responsible members of society, and to improve performance levels to prepare students for college and careers in a global society.

Essential Functions
  • Implement 21st Century Skills into the curriculum.
  • Work a full duty day at assigned locations.
  • Assess student abilities relative to educational goals and standards.
  • Plan and employ appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Manage classroom behavior and participate in behavior management across the site.
  • Communicate instructional expectations and student progress to students and parents.
  • Assess and document student achievement.
  • Collaborate with program personnel on instructional planning.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Maintain and submit student progress records.
  • Ensure a safe, attractive, and conducive learning environment.
  • Engage in extracurricular activities as requested.
  • Participate in IEP meetings for IDEA students.
  • Maintain good knowledge of content, curriculum, and student development.
  • Continuously update research and instructional methods.
  • Plan lessons based on curriculum and student needs.
  • Establish effective relationships with students, parents, and peers.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Possess patience, caring, and a desire to support student success.
  • Take attendance and follow policies.
  • Follow Section 504 and IDEA regulations.
  • Maintain professionalism and appearance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Skills and Requirements

Maintain communication with school personnel and parents, utilize technology effectively, and demonstrate problem-solving and interpretative skills. Physical and environmental demands are consistent with a high-paced educational setting, with accommodations available for disabilities.

Terms of Employment

186 days, certified salary schedule, FLSA exempt, reports to the Director of Libraries and Building Principal, performance evaluated per policy.
