Job Details

TITLE: 3rd Grade Elementary Teacher - SY25/26

LOCATION: Lindbergh

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district serving approximately 22,000 students, with over 60 languages spoken at home. KCKPS includes Sumner Academy, ranked the #6 high school nationally and #1 in Kansas according to US News. The district comprises Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, making it the fifth largest in Kansas with a diverse student body.

To facilitate student comprehension and application of concepts, skills, and behaviors that contribute to developing responsible members of society, and to prepare students for college and careers in a global society.

Essential Functions
  1. Implement 21st Century Skills into the curriculum.
  2. Work a full duty day at assigned locations.
  3. Assess student abilities relative to educational goals and standards.
  4. Plan and employ appropriate instructional strategies suited to students' needs.
  5. Manage classroom behavior and participate in behavior management across the site.
  6. Communicate instructional expectations and student progress to students and parents.
  7. Assess student achievement and maintain documentation.
  8. Collaborate with program personnel on instructional planning.
  9. Participate in professional development activities.
  10. Maintain accurate records of student progress.
  11. Ensure a safe, attractive, and conducive learning environment.
  12. Participate in extracurricular activities as requested.
  13. Attend and contribute to IEP meetings for IDEA students.
  14. Maintain knowledge of content, curriculum, and student development.
  15. Study current research and educational theories.
  16. Plan lessons based on curriculum objectives and student needs.
  17. Establish effective relationships with students, parents, and peers.
  18. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  19. Demonstrate good human relations skills.
  20. Perform physical and emotional tasks required by the role.
  21. Monitor student work and behavior effectively.
  22. Take attendance and follow policies.
  23. Follow Section 504 and IDEA regulations.
  24. Maintain professionalism and appearance.
  25. Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Information

Communication/Organization: Maintain communication with staff and parents, utilizing technology effectively.

Reasoning Ability: Solve practical problems, interpret instructions in various formats.

Language Skills: Read, analyze, interpret professional and regulatory documents; communicate effectively.

Physical Demands: Sit, walk, stand, and communicate; vision abilities required.

Work Environment: Typically loud, safety is a priority.

Other Skills: Apply current research, establish effective relationships, communicate clearly.

Terms of Employment: 186 days, salary per district schedule, FLSA exempt, reports to Director and Principal, performance evaluations as per policy.
