The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district serving approximately 22,000 students with over 60 languages spoken at home. We are home to Sumner Academy, ranked #6 nationally and #1 in Kansas by US News.

Our district includes Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, making us the fifth largest in Kansas. Our student demographics are approximately 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian. We employ around 4,000 staff, including over 1,800 teachers.

Job Goal

Essential Functions
  • Implement 21st Century Skills into the curriculum.
  • Work a full duty day at assigned locations.
  • Assess student abilities relative to educational goals and standards.
  • Plan and employ diverse instructional strategies suited to students' needs.
  • Manage classroom behavior and contribute to behavior management across the site.
  • Communicate instructional expectations and student progress to students and parents.
  • Assess student achievement and maintain documentation for reporting.
  • Collaborate with program personnel to plan instructional goals and curriculum.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Maintain student progress records and reports.
  • Ensure a safe, attractive, and conducive learning environment.
  • Engage in extracurricular activities as requested.
  • Participate in IEP meetings for IDEA students.
  • Possess strong content knowledge and understanding of student development and curriculum.
  • Continuously update research and instructional strategies.
  • Plan lessons based on curriculum and student needs.
  • Establish effective relationships with students, parents, and peers.
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Maintain physical and emotional stamina for high-paced work.
  • Monitor students effectively in the classroom.
  • Demonstrate patience and a caring attitude.
  • Take attendance accurately and follow relevant policies.
  • Follow Section 504 and IDEA regulations.
  • Maintain professionalism and a neat appearance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
