Job summary

Westwood Heights Schools is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated Elementary School Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will foster an engaging, inclusive classroom environment where all students are supported academically, socially, and emotionally.

Plan, differentiate instruction, assess progress, and use MTSS to guide support. Maintain open communication with families and work with grade-level teams, special education staff, and school leadership to ensure student success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with elementary endorsement.
• Passing MTTC subject exams are required.
• Completion of required diagnostic reading coursework per MDE guidelines.
• State and Federal Background Check clearance and CPR/First Aid certification.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and differentiate instruction aligned with Michigan K–12 Academic Standards.
• Assess student progress using formative and summative tools to guide instruction.
• Foster a positive, structured, and safe learning environment using multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student growth and well-being.
• Collaborate with grade-level teams, special education staff, and school leadership.

Mandatory Certification & Qualifications

Candidates must satisfy all state requirements set by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE):

• Degree: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Teaching Certificate: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate elementary endorsement
• Testing: Passing score on the corresponding Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) subject exam(s).
• Reading Requirements: Completion of required diagnostic reading coursework per MDE guidelines.
• Clearances: State and Federal Background Check clearance (LiveScan Fingerprinting) and valid CPR/First Aid certification.

Note: Candidates holding a valid Interim Teaching Certificate (ITC) via an approved Michigan Alternative Route program will also be considered.
