Job Description

Position Open until Filled.

Duties
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the designated locations and times.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of district curriculum goals, establishes and communicates objectives to students for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Prepares for assigned classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the physical limitations and the needs of students or student groups.
  • Strives to implement the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, objectives and performance expectations.
  • Assesses students’ accomplishments regularly; provides progress reports as required, and communicates with parents as necessary.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and regulations.
  • Diagnoses learning challenges of students regularly and seeks assistance of district specialists as needed.
  • Protects students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Follows the district code of conduct and establishes fair classroom behavior rules.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for paraprofessionals and makes written evaluations as required.
  • Engages in professional growth that satisfies district requirements and personal expectations.
  • Participates in the teacher evaluation process and reaches mutual agreement regarding results.
  • Attends building and district meetings and promotes communication and decision-making among staff.
  • Participates in school-sponsored activities such as Back‑to‑School Night, Open House, etc.
  • Contributes to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well‑being.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Qualifications
  • Highly qualified with required competency in the content area.
  • Appropriate content/program area educator license (Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities) and grade level (PreK‑8) licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with appropriate license, or
  • Master’s Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years.
