Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
• Valid Texas certificate with required SPED endorsements for assignments.
• Periodic certificate (Semi-Annual) for certain employees.
• Ability to work effectively with school and community populations.
• Knowledge of ARD Committee process and IEP goal setting/implementation.
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop IEPs through ARD.
• Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs and document prep.
• Plan and use instructional strategies reflecting students' learning styles and needs.
• Modify regular curricula with classroom teachers to support SPED students.
• Participate in ARD meetings regularly.
• Assess student learning styles and plan instructional activities accordingly.
• Present subject matter per IEP guidelines.
• Use varied instructional techniques and media for each student.
• Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides and volunteers.
• Use technology in teaching and learning processes.
• Conduct ongoing assessments of achievement through formal/informal tests.
• Assist in personal, medical, and feeding tasks as stated in IEP.
• Lead extracurricular activities as assigned by campus principal.
• Be a positive role model and support the district mission.
• Create a conducive classroom environment for development.
• Manage student behavior and administer discipline per IEP; intervene as needed.
• Consult with teachers on behavior management per IEP.
• Consult district and outside resources regarding student needs.
• Ensure safety of students, materials, and facilities.
• Assist in selection of books and instructional materials.
• Maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
• Maintain professional relationships with staff and community.
• Communicate information clearly and accurately.
• Participate in staff development to enhance skills.
• Stay informed of regulations for special education.
