Job summary

Patchogue-Medford School District seeks a creative and compassionate Special Education Teacher to support students with significant management, behavioral, and learning needs. Qualifications

• Must possess or be eligible for NYS Certification in Elementary Special Education.
• Bilingual candidates and TESOL certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and provide instruction addressing IEP goals and NYS standards.
• Use culturally and linguistically responsive practices for diverse learners.
• Collaborate with teachers, related services, and support staff as a team.
• Communicate regularly with parents on student progress and needs.
• Prepare trimester and annual progress reports.
• Complete student IEPs including present levels, goals, and accommodations.
• Collect and record data on student progress toward IEP goals.
• Demonstrate strong behavior management and support for executive functioning challenges.
• Address social-emotional needs using positive supports.
• Apply interventions to progress toward goals and avoid early restrictive placements.
• Implement data-driven interventions to address learning gaps.
• Maintain a reflective mindset toward instructional practice.

Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and provide rigorous, engaging instruction addressing student Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and NYS curriculum standards.
• Use culturally and linguistically responsive practices to instruct students of varying cultural backgrounds.
• Collaborate with teachers, related service providers and support staff to provide a team-oriented approach.
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, strengths and needs.
• Prepare trimester and annual progress reports.
• Complete student IEPs, including present levels of performance, goals and classroom accommodations using Frontline IEP.
• Collect and record data regarding student progress toward IEP goals.
• Demonstrate strong behavior management skills and the ability to effectively support students with executive functioning challenges and neurodiverse learning needs.
• Address student social-emotional needs using positive behavior supports.
• Use a variety of interventions to support progress towards goals before considering more restrictive placements.
• Implement data-driven interventions to address gaps in learning
• Demonstrate a reflective mindset towards his/her instructional practice.
