  • Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.

  • Participates in the completion of initial evaluations and reevaluations to determine eligibility for special education services.

  • Attends IEP, 504 Plan, and other student specific meetings as appropriate

  • Establishes a system of documentation that is professional, efficient, and accountable and conforms to state guidelines

  • Provides consultation to general education teachers to support students in accessing the educational environment.

  • Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP.

  • Provides direct interventions and accommodations necessary to support the students in the least restrictive environment.

  • Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.

  • Fosters a positive learning experience with emphasis on individualized instruction utilizing appropriate resources.

  • Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with student services team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies.

  • Schedules and coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP.

  • Provides direction, supervision, and support to special education paraprofessionals as directed.

  • Communicates relevant information regarding student progress to staff, parents, and building administration.

  • Supports the general education staff in making necessary accommodations and modifications in the classroom and serves as a resource to the classroom teacher related to a student’s instructional and learning needs

  • Serves as a parent contact as it relates to students' Individual Education Plan goals.

  • Participates in building data team meetings and district-requested special education meetings and training.

  • Complies with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.

  • Completes all district and state reporting requirements.

  • Communicates effectively (both orally and in writing) and collaboratively with students, parents and staff.

  • Utilizes technology fluently to manage all components of the job.

  • Maintains records in an accurate and confidential manner consistent with applicable rules aligned with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.

  • Elementary Special Education Teacher - Resource

    Under the direction of the Building Principal, Building Assistant Principal, and Director of Special Education, the Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows State mandated procedures, and functions as the case manager to assigned students.

    Position also includes internal coverage of instructional classrooms across two buildings (Jefferson and Jackson).

    Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

    Compensation and Benefits

    The salary and benefits for this position are consistent with the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. Placement on the salary schedule is at the discretion of the District.
