Job summary

Festus R-VI School District is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to support the classroom teacher and provide responsible care to students at Festus Elementary School. The role requires assisting with instruction, supervising students, and addressing daily needs in coordination with the teaching staff.

The position offers a $15.50 per hour minimum pay with pay dependent on college hours, degree, certification, and prior experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 60+ college credit hours.
• Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist special teacher in classroom instruction and care of students.
• Attend to personal hygiene needs of students and assist with changing soiled clothing as needed.
• Reads tests to students and makes accommodations from the IEP.
• Participate in class-within-a-class educational opportunities, take notes, monitor behavior, and support individual students.
• Maintain a positive working relationship with staff, parents/guardians, and students.
• Keep records, write lessons on the board, and help students correct work.
• Escort students to and from the bus and between classes as needed.
• Assist with classroom setup and materials preparation; handle attendance and related clerical duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties may include (but are not limited to):

• Assist special teacher in classroom instruction and care of students
• Attending to and addressing personal hygiene needs of student including the changing of soiled clothing etc. (as needed)
• Reads tests to students and makes other accommodations from the IEP.
• At times participates in Class-Within-A-Class educational opportunities. (Takes notes during class, monitors behavior of students, works with individual students, etc.)
• Maintain a positive working relationship with staff, parents/guardians, and students.
• Demonstrates understanding of students' difficulties.
• Keeps records, writes lessons on the board and helps students correct work.
• Walks students to and from the bus, or other areas of school (as needed).
• Walks with students that have behavior difficulties between classes (as needed).
• Assists teacher in maintaining discipline and other functions.
• Assists with set-up of classroom and prepares materials for instruction
• Handles attendance reports and related clerical functions.
• Assists in assembling / hanging materials on bulletin boards.
• Operates standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, etc.
• Other duties as assigned by cooperating teacher &/or building administrator.
