Job summary

Unalaska City School District is seeking a paraeducator to assist in the care, instruction, and support of elementary students with a range of needs (PreK–5, or up to grade 8 at some campuses). The role may place you in Intensive Resource (IR), Extended Resource (ER), Preschool (PK), or integrated general education settings depending on district needs.

New hires receive a $2,000 signing bonus after 30 days and a $2,000 retention bonus paid in December and June.

Qualifications

• Must meet at least one of: high school diploma/equivalent with ability to pass assessments; associate degree or higher; or 48 semester hours.
• Ability to lift and assist students safely.
• Understanding of developmental disabilities and empathy for students with special needs.
• Tutoring skills commensurate with the level of assigned students.
• Successful completion of de-escalation/crisis intervention training, including physical restraint, as required.
• If the posted vacancy lists a requirement for signing skills, the applicant must at a minimum have completed ASL I and ASL II.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the care, instruction, and support of elementary students with physical, social-emotional, behavioral, self-help, and developmental needs.
• Positions may be assigned to Intensive Resource (IR) rooms, Extended Resource (ER) rooms, Preschool (PK) classrooms, or integrated general education settings based on district and building needs.
