Job summary

Kansas City Public Schools is hiring an Elementary Coach for Carver Elementary, Kansas City, Missouri. You will provide instruction, leadership and supervision to elementary students in the sports program, coordinating practices, games and safety procedures.

You will also support academic monitoring with teachers and staff while maintaining ethical conduct and encouraging student-athlete academic and athletic growth.

Qualifications

• Must have a Teachers Certificate or valid Substitute Certificate or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Assist with practices by emphasizing teamwork, skill development, learning rules and strategies, and student-athlete improvement.
• Assist with academic monitoring with teachers, counselors, and other academic support staff.
• Help supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices and contests, including locker rooms, buses and at all times; attend practices and games on time.
• Help manage equipment and inventory; ensure proper care.
• Complete required paperwork including rosters, physicals, insurance forms, and parent consent forms.
• Provide information for transportation, facilities, officials and game management.
• Model ethical behavior and sportsmanship during practices and contests.
• Assist in coordinating the program and promoting student athletes’ accomplishments.
• Pursue professional growth through clinics and publications.

Purpose of Job: Provide instruction, leadership and supervision to elementary school students participating in the sports program.

What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities)

• Assist with practices by placing emphasis on the importance of teamwork, skill development, learning rules and strategies, and student-athlete improvement.
• Assist with engaging in academic monitoring with teachers, counselors, and other academic support staff.
• Help supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices and contests, including in locker rooms, on busses and at all other times. The assistant coach will be at all practices and games on time and not leave until all student-athletes have left.
• Help assume responsibility for constant care of equipment and inventory being used.
• Follow through on all required paperwork including, rosters, physicals, insurance forms, and parent consent forms.
• Help provide information for transportation, facilities, officials and game management.
• Conduct team and self in an ethical manner during practices and contests, always exemplifying the highest standards of sportsmanship.
• Assist in the coordination of the program.
• Promote student athlete’s accomplishments academically and athletically.
• Continue professional growth through clinics and professional publications.
