Elementary School Special Education Teacher (2025-2026 School Year)

Join to apply for the Elementary School Special Education Teacher (2025-2026 School Year) role at Corvallis School District 509J.

Purpose: The purpose of this position is to work collaboratively with school staff in designing, implementing, and adapting instructional programs for students with special needs in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) or the Life Skills Program.

FTE: 1.0

FLSA Status: Licensed - Professional

Contract Status: Regular/Probationary

Start Date: 2025/2026 School Year

Calendar: 191 Work Days

Salary: $52,980 - $99,204 with benefits

Retirement Contribution: The district participates in Oregon PERS/OPSRP; contributions are made to the employee's IAP after six months of employment.

Note: Open until filled; earliest review May 19, 2025. Bilingual Spanish preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Create a respectful learning environment.
  • Work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Plan and implement instructional programs for students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to modify curriculum.
  • Serve as case manager for students in the LRC or Life Skills Program.
  • Coordinate evaluations, develop IEPs, and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Schedule and conduct IEP meetings, inform parents of due process rights.
  • Use data to monitor student progress and develop behavior support plans.
  • Complete paperwork timely, maintain confidentiality.
  • Implement RTI and collaborate with staff and community.
  • Train Educational Assistants, communicate with parents.
  • Assist in implementing school policies and behavior management.
  • Participate in meetings and district activities outside regular hours.
Qualifications:
  • Valid Oregon teaching license with special education endorsement.
  • Experience with students with disabilities and knowledge of special education laws.
  • Effective communication and human relations skills.
  • Ability to manage students and direct staff.
  • Travel among district schools; First Aid certification may be required.
Physical Demands:
  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and talking.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds; assist with students as needed.
Work Environment:
  • Primarily indoors; some outdoor supervision.
  • Travel between sites; possible evening or extended hours.
