Job summary

Lincoln Park Public Schools seeks an Elementary School Counselor for a leave replacement position at Lincoln Park Elementary School. The anticipated dates run from December 17, 2026 to May 12, 2027, serving students in a developmental guidance program for grades K-8.

The role involves individual and group counseling, collaboration with teachers and parents, crisis intervention, and coordination with the Principal and Director of Special Services.

Qualifications

• Masters Degree in counseling or related field.
• School Counselor Certificate required.
• Elementary Certification and teaching experience desirable.
• Background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status required.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications may be acceptable per Board of Education.

Responsibilities

• Assists students, teachers, parents, and administrators to implement the development of individual uniqueness in pupils to its maximum potential.
• Provides the opportunity for students to develop: self-awareness; self-esteem; positive interpersonal relationships; positive school attitude; appropriate values; and improve problem solving and decision-making.
• Utilizes individual counseling to assist student's personal adjustment, and explore ideas, feelings and behaviors in a private atmosphere.
• Utilizes group counseling to allow students the opportunity to learn from each other by sharing ideas and obtaining feedback from peers.
• Creates and implements a developmental guidance program that targets specific proficiencies for each grade level K-8.
• Attends staff meetings to coordinate and share information with staff to meet the individual needs of the student.
• Consults with teachers, parents, and administrators to problem solve, to share information/alternatives, to foster objective attitudes, and to coordinate approaches to meet the needs of the student.
• Acts as a liaison between school, home and other helping professions.
• Guides students in the development of pre‑vocational and career opportunities.
• Confers with the faculty regarding affective concerns of students.
• Provides information to district committees on issues such as curriculum revision, professional development and report card revision.
• Responds immediately to requests for crisis intervention for students when contacted by staff, administrators and parents.
• Maintains a current knowledge of trends and techniques within the counseling field and continually pursues personal/professional growth.
• Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the Principal or Director of Special Services.
