Job Description
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for the subject and level assigned
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of academic subject assigned
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- Previous teaching, student teaching, or approved internship experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop and implement lesson plans according to campus guidelines that fulfill district curriculum requirements.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect student learning styles and needs.
- Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students per IEP guidelines.
- Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
- Supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
- Integrate technology to strengthen teaching/learning processes in compliance with TEKS.
- Participate in ARD meetings as needed.
- Utilize the TEKS Resource System as directed.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing; use data to meet student needs.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
- Serve as a positive role model and support the school mission.
- Serve as a mentor for at-risk students as needed.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ development.
- Manage student behavior per Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials as needed.
- Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Participate in professional development activities.
- Keep informed of and comply with regulations and policies.
- Compile, maintain, and file all required reports within deadlines.
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Comply with district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain positive relationships with supervisors.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Supervise assigned teacher aide(s), student teachers, and student observers.
