Job summary

Tri-Town School Union Spofford Pond School in Boxford, MA seeks a part-time Recess Coach to supervise elementary students during lunch and recess, both indoors and outdoors, and to support safe, positive play.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Must pass a required state and federal criminal background check.
• Proven ability to work effectively and patiently with elementary-aged children.
• Dependable and punctual with a strong attendance record.
• Ability to be firm but fair in enforcing school rules.
• Preferred: Prior experience working or volunteering with groups of children.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm, positive, and professional in a fast-paced environment.
• Current certification in First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain it).

Responsibilities

• Recess Supervision: supervise students during outdoor and indoor recess, ensuring safe and appropriate play.
• Actively circulate to anticipate and prevent potential problems.
• Enforce school rules for playground equipment and games.
• Help organize and oversee group games or activities, encouraging positive social interaction and inclusion.
• Be aware of and monitor all students in the assigned area.
• Student Safety and Support: de-escalate minor conflicts and administer basic first aid as needed.
• Report injuries or serious behavioral incidents to the nurse or principal.
• Assist with transitions between cafeteria, playground, and classrooms.
• Maintain professional rapport with students and staff; communicate with teachers and administrators.
• Attend required training sessions (safety, first aid); perform other related duties as assigned.
