Job summary

Richmond Public Schools is seeking an Early Intervention Assistant for George W. Carver Elementary School in Richmond, VA. This 9.5-month role supports K-2 interventions under the Office of Student Supports and Interventions.

The position involves small group instruction, progress communication with staff and families, and data collection using approved assessment tools. Training will be provided before delivering targeted interventions.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or 60 college credits recognized by the Virginia Department of Education or demonstrated knowledge in reading, writing, and math instruction by ParaPro passing score.
• Minimum of one year working experience as an instructional assistant preferred.
• Excellent communication, organizational, time management, and public relations skills are required.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Good skills in operating personal computers and related software.
• Adaptable to changing priorities, ability to work independently and/or with minimal supervision, and the ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Knowledge of child growth and development and paraprofessional instructional procedures and practices.
• Knowledge of instructional goals and public school policies.
• Patience and ability to work effectively with children and faculty.

Responsibilities

• Provides small group instruction.
• Communicates with school personnel and parents regarding reading and/or math progress.
• Differentiates instruction based on assessment data.
• Participates in team reviews concerning academic progress for students receiving services.
• Shares student data with teachers and administration.
• Provides pre and post-assessment data to teachers and administrators.
• Communicates with students, parents, staff and community.
• Maintains accurate records and documentation.
• Follows training procedures and practices.
• Attends all required training.
• Monitors use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
• Administers informal and formal assessments.
• Evaluates and assesses student progress against objectives.
• Manages classroom organization.
