Elementary PE Teacher

School Year: 2025-2026

Location: Covington-Harper Elementary School

Job Summary:

This position plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students in grades K-5. This position manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities as required, carrying out a variety of student monitoring and control activities. This position serves as a general education, elementary classroom teacher (K-5); classes taught may be in a single, team, or departmental setting, but a teacher might work independently in a unique teaching specialty. This position may be assigned to reading or technology labs and performs work under the general supervision of a principal and/or other designated administrator.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1. Knowledge of the Instructional Process
2. Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty(ies) to which assigned
3. Knowledge of pre-adolescent and adolescent growth and development
4. Knowledge of Prince William County Curriculum related to assignments and School Division mission, goals, and organization
5. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
6. Skill in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
7. Ability to plan and implement lessons based on Division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned
8. Skill in oral and written communication; excellent human relations skills
9. If teaching a foreign language, proficiency in oral and written communication in that language
10. If teaching choral music, the ability to teach through demonstrating singing/choral techniques, proficiency on the piano; ability to distinguish pitches and tone quality
11. If teaching instrumental music classes, proficiency in one or more musical instruments, and the ability to model correct playing techniques in all instruments; the ability to distinguish pitches and tone quality

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree

Collegiate Professional, Post Graduate Professional, or appropriate vocational license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with endorsement(s) required for teaching assignment(s); must be eligible for Virginia Teacher Certification Program or licensure.
