Job summary

ALABASTER CITY SCHOOLS is seeking a School Based Instructional Coach for Elementary Math to help ensure teachers have strong knowledge of standards and curriculum, plus expertise in effective teaching methods to prepare students for college and/or career readiness. The role focuses on Tier 1 instruction, collaborative planning with principals, and leading math professional learning across K-5.

Requires Alabama teaching cert, a master’s degree or equivalent professional development, and at least

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of successful teaching experience in elementary math.
• Alabama certificate in elementary education and a master's degree or completed professional development recommended by the Elementary Task Force, or both.
• Experience facilitating professional learning opportunities and/or teacher training.
• Knowledge of math curriculum development.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with emphasis on best practices.
• Proficient in computer usage.
• Alternative qualifications may be acceptable per Board of Education.

Responsibilities

• Support improvement of instruction with emphasis on Tier 1 instruction to prevent students from falling behind.
• Collaborate with the principal and faculty to plan and implement coaching strategies for mathematics to improve achievement.
• Lead schoolwide math professional learning including coaching, modeling, co-teaching, observation, data collection and debriefing.
• Model evidence-based math instructional and intervention strategies.
• Mentor and coach teachers continuously.
• Assist teachers in using data to differentiate math instruction and identify dyscalculia characteristics.
• Monitor K-5 progress with benchmark assessments and adjust instruction based on data.
• Focus on mathematics coaching for elementary grades.
• Work with grade-level teams to use appropriate instructional materials and develop rigorous tasks and assessments.
• Assist in using formative assessments to address misconceptions and acceleration needs.
• Support early numeracy and fractional reasoning screeners in appropriate grades.
• Coordinate family and community engagement in mathematics with the principal.
• Participate in AMSTI regional visits and professional learning to meet outcomes.
• Engage in ongoing learning to grow in mathematics knowledge and practice.
• Facilitate data-driven decisions to raise math performance.
• Plan or facilitate professional learning to target deficits and next steps.
• Document duties on the state electronic platform.
• Support integration of computer science and computational thinking in mathematics.
• Maintain punctual attendance and confidentiality.
• Assume other duties as assigned.
