Qualifications

• Two years of college experience required.
• Two-year college degree required.
• Must have passed the ParaPro Assessment within 1 year of employment.
• At least 1,000 hours of prior work in a school setting supporting student instruction.
• Completion of 48 college credit hours.
• Experience with Special Education Instruction preferred.

Responsibilities

• Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
• Assists teachers in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
• Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
• Assists with the supervision of student during emergency drills, assemblies and field trips.
• Provides assistance and monitors progress of students receiving services.
• Reads assignments and tests to students when accommodation is prescribed by an IEP, 504, or GEI.
• Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
• Assists students in the library or media center.
• Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
• Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
• Perform other duties as requested by the principal.
