Job summary

FRASER PUBLIC SCHOOLS in Fraser, Michigan, is seeking an Elementary Head Custodian at Salk Elementary to ensure a safe, clean, and smoothly functioning environment for students and the community.

Responsibilities include overseeing building care and maintenance, conducting inspections, and coordinating with staff to support after-school activities while maintaining security, safety, and budget awareness.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Directly responsible for the care, cleanliness, orderliness, maintenance and protection of the building.
• Conducts thorough inspections of all parts of the building and grounds; coordinates with afternoon custodian.
• Disarms building security system, activates card access, and opens the building for occupancy.
• Responsible for cleaning assigned area.
• Responsible for lawn maintenance and snow removal.
• Responsible for preventative maintenance of building systems.
• Responsible for repairs of building systems.
• Writes work orders, orders supplies, answers emails/voicemails and manages supply budgets.
• Maintains communication at all levels with staff, administration, vendors, parents and students.
• Wears assigned uniform and maintains personal hygiene.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

JOB GOAL: To provide a physical learning environment that is safe, clean and smoothly functioning for students and the community.

ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Directly responsible for the care, cleanliness, orderliness, maintenance and protection of the building.
• Conducts thorough inspections of all parts of the building and grounds. Meets with afternoon custodian/s daily to discuss areas of need and for upcoming evening activities.
• Upon arrival at work, disarms building security system and activates card access and proceeds to open the building for occupancy.
• Responsible for cleaning assigned area.
• Responsible for lawn maintenance and snow removal.
• Responsible for the preventative maintenance of building systems.
• Responsible for repairs of building systems.
• Responsible for writing work orders, ordering supplies, answering emails, voicemails and supply budgets.
• Responsible for communication at all levels. This includes staff, administration, vendors, parents and students.
• Maintains a harmonious working relationship with building staff, coworkers, vendors, students and parents.
• Must wear assigned uniform and maintain personal hygiene.
• Performs such other task and assumes such other responsibilities as the Director of Operations and Maintenance, Supervisor and/or Building Principal may assign.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with the negotiated contract.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Operations and Maintenance or his designee.
