Job summary

Kansas City Public Schools is seeking an Elementary ELA Coordinator to promote and support high-quality literacy instruction across elementary schools. You will work with teachers and principals to analyze student data, place students into appropriate reading interventions, and model evidence-based literacy strategies.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and Reading Certification, with at least five years of classroom teaching and strong knowledge of literacy foundations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Elementary Education required.
• Reading Certification required.
• Minimum of five years of classroom teaching experience.
• Knowledge of early literacy research.
• Knowledge of the five areas of reading instruction and explicit teaching of each.

Responsibilities

• Assist in facilitating the district literacy program.
• Support teachers and principals with data collection, analysis, and reporting of results.
• Assist schools with student placement in reading/writing interventions.
• Model targeted, research-based literacy strategies for staff.
• Deliver professional development in literacy and co-teaching.
• Assist teachers with English Language Arts curriculum resources.
• Plan literacy instruction aligned to district curriculum with teachers.
• Attend PD to enhance pedagogy knowledge in literacy.
• Maintain documentation of support provided to schools.
• Analyze data and provide targeted support with the Literacy Coordinator and Lead Literacy Interventionist.
