Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable individual to fill the role of an Elementary Building Substitute Teacher. This position is essential in providing continuity of education for students in the absence of their regular classroom teachers. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for teaching, a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment, and the ability to engage and inspire young learners.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assume the role of the classroom teacher in their absence, delivering lessons and managing classroom activities.
  • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher, ensuring that educational objectives are met and communicating progress.
  • Maintain a positive and productive classroom environment, promoting respect and cooperation among students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with school policies, addressing any issues that arise in a timely and effective manner.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress, providing feedback and support to help them succeed.
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff regarding classroom activities and student performance.
  • Collaborate with school staff to ensure a seamless transition for students and maintain continuity in their education.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay updated on best practices in education.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by school administration, including supervising lunch or recess periods.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Must include all necessary education and specific subject area certifications
  • Qualifies as a substitute teacher through EduStaff
  • Previous experience working with elementary-aged children in an educational setting is highly desirable
  • Understands the academic and emotional needs of elementary students
  • Works collaboratively with others
  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and written
