POSITION GOAL(S):

The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with the school principal to support the success of all students in the school, including the professional capacity of school staff; communicating effectively with parents and the community; and supporting student learning. Inherent in this role are the responsibilities for staff evaluation, curriculum development, personal management, special education facilitation, emergency procedures, and facility operations.

JOB DUTIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Coordinates efforts with building principal to establish and implement a shared mission and vision for the school that leads to academic growth for all learners.
  2. Supports principal in developing, implementing, and monitoring the outcomes of the school improvement plan which measure school-wide academic achievement and school climate indicators.
  3. Is a critical part of the service team, leading and facilitating special education meetings, including but not limited to initial domains, annual reviews, and re-evaluations.
  4. Develops, in collaboration with principal and staff, consistent instructional practices which reflect effective teaching and learning that includes a rigorous and relevant standards-based curriculum.
  5. Establishes, in collaboration with the principal and staff, a continuous improvement cycle that uses multiple forms of data and student work samples to support individual, team, and school-wide improvement goals, identifies and address target areas for improvement, measures outcomes and celebrates successes.
  6. In collaboration with building principal, evaluates the effectiveness of instruction and of individual teachers by conducting frequent formal and informal observations and provides timely, specific feedback on instruction as part of the district teacher appraisal system.
  7. Works with the principal to support and facilitate teacher teams and professional learning communities.
  8. Supports and participates in professional learning grounded in improving instructional and operational leadership.
  9. In partnership with the principal, creates, develops and sustains relationships that result in active student engagement in the learning process.
  10. Utilizes meaningful feedback from students, staff, families, and community in the evaluation of instructional programs and school procedures.
  11. Proactively engages families and communities in supporting student learning and the school’s shared mission, vision and learning goals.
  12. With principal, creates and supports a climate that values, accepts and understands cultural diversity and multiple perspectives.
  13. Works with the principal to ensure a culture of high aspirations and academic achievement for every student.
  14. Consistently models positive behavior aligned to the school’s vision and mission and builds the capacity of others in the school community.
  15. Works with principal to ensure a welcoming environment and a school culture that successfully develops the full range of students’ learning capacities – academic, creative, social-emotional, behavioral and physical.
  16. Takes a leadership role, with or in the absence of a school principal in the event of any safety or other emergency.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Minimum of five years teaching experience.
  2. Demonstrated interest, knowledge and/or applied experience in serving culturally and linguistically diverse students.
  3. Extensive knowledge of learning theory, current educational trends, program planning, curriculum development, and management of instructional programs.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  5. Experience using formative assessment and other student data to improve instruction and the provision of academic and social supports.
  6. Excellent oral/written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills to present information before large and small groups.
  7. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

EDUCATION:

  1. Master’s Degree in the field of education required.
  2. Professional Educator License with General Administrative or Principal endorsement.
  3. Successful completion of all PERA module designations required to evaluate certified staff (Teachers & Principal) (preferred); completion required by September 1st of current year.
  4. LBS1 endorsement (preferred)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Will be expected to work evenings and some weekends as required by the school’s and district’s event supervision calendar.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position has an 11-month work year (229 days). Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.

Additional Information:
The salary range for this position is $75,396.00 - $113,099.00. It is our typical practice to hire in between the minimum and midpoint ($94,247.50).
