Job summary

Pratt Miller, based in Michigan, is seeking an entry-level technician to support prototype and concept vehicle wiring harness development with a focus on electrification and unmanned platforms. You will interpret engineering schematics, build harnesses to IPC 620C standards, prepare build kits, and assist engineers in troubleshooting electrical systems while maintaining a clean, safe workstation.

Daytime hours, occasional travel for on-site customer work, and a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience with electronics tools: hand tools, crimpers, soldering iron helpful.
  • Ability to identify color-coded wires and labels; basic electrical concepts.
  • Knowledge of wiring loom building techniques in defense, motorsports, or aerospace is a plus.
  • High Voltage safety awareness is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering schematics, pin schedules, and loom drawings to assemble wiring harnesses.
  • Assemble wire harnesses to IPC 620C Class 2/3 standards and processes.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and be a reliable team player.

  • Prepare harness build packages, assemble kits, label, and bundle wires.

OVERVIEW

The entry level technician uses basic skills, tools, and knowledge to follow clearly defined standard operating procedures. They receive instruction and close supervision of work processes. You will support the development of prototype and concept vehicles, with a strong focus on vehicle electrification, autonomous vehicles, and unmanned vehicle platforms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Interpret engineering schematics, pin schedules, and loom drawings to construct quality wiring harnesses.
  • Build Wire Harnesses to IPC 620C Class 2/3 standards and processes.
  • Maintain clean and organized work environment. Be a team player.
  • Have great attention to detail, dependability, pride in work, initiative.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prepare harness build package for team members – assemble parts kit from inventory, print labels, prepare wire bundles...
  • Finished assembly of harnesses – wrapping, labeling, booting…
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to the responsibilities mentioned above, tasks relating to the following area will be assigned as required.

  • Education / training.
  • Provide feedback on product needs and processes.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Assist engineers in troubleshooting electrical systems.
  • Operate light Industrial Automation Equipment.
  • Use inventory management system.
Education/Certification/Years Of Experience
  • High school diploma.
Desired Specialized Skills And Knowledge
  • Experience with and ability to use typical electronics tools: hand tools, crimpers, soldering iron, etc.
  • Printed circuit board assembly and repair experience.
  • Must be able to identify color-coded wires and ID labels.
  • Ability to work on vehicles and equipment, including on top of, underneath, and confined spaces.
  • High Voltage system safety experience.
  • Knowledge of military, motorsports or aerospace industry wiring loom build techniques and components.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical concepts and theory (voltage, resistance, amperage).
Physical Demands
  • Position requires occasional or frequent moderate physical activity.
Expected Hours Of Work
  • Daytime schedule Monday – Friday with infrequent night/weekend work to achieve deadlines.
  • Minimal travel as required for on-site customer work.
