Job summary

Oshkosh Corporation seeks an Electronics Technician III to support prototype and concept vehicles, with a strong focus on vehicle electrification, autonomous vehicles, and unmanned platforms. You will assemble harnesses, interpret schematics, and ensure quality through testing.

You will work with engineers to update diagrams and manufacturing docs, train others on tools, and collaborate to develop practical solutions within a team environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • 5+ years of electronic harness build, test, or repair experience.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering schematics, pin schedules, and loom drawings to construct quality wiring harnesses.
  • Follow IPC 620C wire harness build processes.
  • Maintain clean and organized work environment.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on electronics lab products.
  • Use and train others on voltmeter, hand tools, soldering iron, etc.
  • Apply knowledge of wiring loom techniques and components.
  • Manage and procure inventory.
  • Troubleshoot wiring harnesses.
  • Read electrical schematics and identify color-coded wires.
  • Work in small groups to develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Update wiring diagrams and manufacturing documents with Engineering.

OVERVIEW:

The Electronics Technician III uses advanced skills and tools along with extensive working knowledge of defined standard operating procedures to complete assignments. They receive minimal supervision of work processes and provide instruction to less experienced technicians. They use their experience to determine the best methods and develop new work processes. You will support the development of prototype and concept vehicles, with a strong focus on vehicle electrification, autonomous vehicles, and unmanned vehicle platforms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Interpret engineering schematics, pin schedules, and loom drawings to construct quality wiring harnesses.
  • Understand and follow IPC 620C wire harness build processes.
  • Maintain clean and organized work environment.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on various Electronics Lab work products.
  • Ability to use and train others on typical electronics tools: voltmeter, hand tools, soldering iron, etc.
  • Apply knowledge of military or motorsports industry wiring loom build techniques and components.
  • Manage and procure inventory.
  • Troubleshoot wire harnesses.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Must be able to identify color-coded wires and ID labels.
  • Ability to work in small groups to develop practical solutions to engineering problems.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical theory and concepts.
  • Update and "redline" wiring harness diagrams and manufacturing documents in collaboration with Engineering.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education / training.
  • Provide feedback on product needs and processes.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Be a team player.
  • Have great attention to detail, dependability, pride in work, initiative.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Education/Certification/Years Of Experience
  • High school diploma.
  • 5+ years of electronic harness build, test, or repair experience.
Desired Specialized Skills And Knowledge
  • Mil Spec harness build experience is preferred.
  • Printed circuit board assembly and repair experience.
  • Ability to work in small groups to develop practical solutions to engineering problems.
  • Ability to work on vehicles and equipment (including installation of electrical components and wiring directly onto vehicles), including on top of, underneath, and confined spaces.
  • High voltage system safety experience.
  • General knowledge of automotive systems (steering, brakes, powertrain, lighting, etc.).
  • Knowledge of electrical testing methods and equipment.
  • Understanding of vehicle communication networks (CAN, LIN, ethernet, etc.).
  • Understanding of embedded control systems and components.
Physical Demands
  • Position requires occasional or frequent moderate physical activity.
Expected Hours Of Work
  • Work schedule: Daytime schedule Monday - Friday with infrequent night/weekend work to achieve deadlines.
  • Minimal travel as required for on-site customer work.
